Pleasurable Viewing: Fall Begins Old Favorites and New Stories

Now that Summer’s blockbusters and bated breath finales have wrapped, Fall brings a fresh onset of films and television that are both refreshing and high anticipated to return.
In basic television news, ABC’s reality competition darling Dancing with the Stars returns with a cast that promises an interesting run of dances. Chaz Bono, the son of Cher, will dance as the show’s first transgender competitor, already garnering support from fans. Soccer star Hope Solo, and David Arquette are among other celebrities featured on the show promising to deliver big numbers yet again.
CBS returns The Big Bang Theory for the comedy deprived who want to see the new twists in the group’s relationships. For crime dramas, Bones and Castle are both coming back to the nightly line-up, carrying over quite a bit of unfinished personal business that keep fans of the series coming back.
Perhaps the biggest buzz in television are the shows that do not air on basic cable. HBO’s winning drama Boardwalk Empire returns and most anticipated goes to Showtime’s record breaking Dexter. Premiering October 2nd, Dexter returns to his darker roots and without a lady at his side, will re-examine his purpose on this Earth.
In the cinema, reboots, political dramas, and comedies are all upcoming and promising to draw fans. For the family, Puss from Shrek will get his chance to shine in Puss in Boots, and for children and the older generation, The Muppets finally returns under the deft hand of Jason Segal and Amy Adams.
Ryan Gosling has two films coming out that have built much buzz. Ides of March is based upon the 2004 campaign of Howard Dean and features George Clooney on cast as well. Drive is a dark, gritty film which garnered its director an award at the Cannes Film Festival.
